One of the many absurdities of the last few years is how quickly and near universally our ‘Betters’ have managed to remove all connection between the power they grant themselves and any semblance of responsibility for the results of the exercise of that power.
As a general principle we have typically held that you are responsible for the results of decisions you make. This makes sense and acts as a moderator on extreme behavior. You have skin in the game, your decisions can and will have consequence.
Unless you’re a part of the government.
I don’t think there’s been nearly enough discussion about the reality that governments, schools, and businesses want the power to force a health choice upon you but none of them, literally none of them, accept any responsibility for any negative consequences for that exercise of power.
What can be said about an irreversible medical procedure so safe and effective that the manufacturer and those forcing it upon you are wholly exempt from any and all liability?
Where else do you see such an exercise of great power, sans acceptance of any responsibility whatsoever for the result?
Well, anywhere you find authoritarians, really.
School teachers are increasingly bridling at the audacity of parents thinking they should have any say whatsoever in what and how their children are taught. They want the power to dictate what will be taught without any responsibility or liability for the results and they’re angry that those who pay their salaries with taxes taken under threat of force, people who have to live with the results of their desired social experimentation and multi-decade abject failure to teach even basic knowledge, they’re angry that those people dare deign to question their power grab.
Sound familiar?
Among the many things that needs to happen if there’s to be any hope of digging ourselves out of the mess we’re in is to demand that those who wish to exercise power be held responsible for the results.
